Media and Sports

Just in case you missed this, it is one of the things I believe in firmly. The media has a major role to play in local sports. Our local media only see sports as a minor news item and not anything worthy, whereas if they package their products better there will be better results for all. The biggest budgets by most companies is spent on advertising. I hear even during a depression, advertising budgets go up as companies fight for dominance and visibility in the fight for the scarce shilling. Even during the post election crisis, advertising went up! Yet all these companies struggle for visibility around News time. True, that is the most watched item, but as I said, with proper packaging of sports programmes, the same visibility can be attained. It is worth noting that one of the best rugby tournaments in the world, the Rugby Super XIV would not have taken place had media not committed it's funds to the event.
