Last year's posts prior to the AGM were heated and so were the responses. We were called partisan and accused of having an agenda. We were accused of being broke and hiding to throw stones from the bushes. You be the judge yourself. Ours was to point out glaring irregularities in governance and procurement and all that the union does. The KRFU constitution is also clearly a strange one in that it is written to guarantee continuity! What if that continuity is not desired? What if radical surgery is required? Or, on the other side, what if we need uninterrupted continuity? What the strange constitution also ensures is that good continuity can be disrupted. A case in point is that the director who was in charge of the largely successful Sevens squad, has reached the end of his term and must step down! What options remain for him? Is he now a spent force in rugby, his youth notwithstanding? Or does he go for higher office?
As I try to be neutral, I will talk about the higher office. The "owners" of Rugby in Kenya felt, a few years ago, that they needed their own people in office. I do not know if it was to "tame" the Chairman, or to assist him in his goals and in his vision. But first they had other business to deal with. To sort out once and for all what they perceived as the greatest evil bedeviling Rugby in Kenya. To tame one club that was the epitome of impunity. That was the greatest hindrance to the smooth running of the union. The stumbling block to ground development on Ngong Road. And a constant threat to the stability of the union. That they were perfectly placed to do this was not in doubt. Having overseen the collapse of a one time giant club in the country, and from the inside, what easier way to do that than as a protagonist! And so two years were wasted before they realised who the real enemy was.
Fast forward to today and what do they have on their list of achievements that the chairman cannot claim as his own? I wait to see. And for Sasha Mutai, with his impressive and snowy clean track record, has he got a right to challenge for the top seats? An astounding YES from me. And given (without putting down unsubstantiated claims
As a parting shot, I still don't understand what is at stake here. If there is no money in the union and there is no benefit in being a director or an officer, what's the big deal? Why not have a governing body of clubs representatives who among themselves annually select the officers? As per this post of last year, iko kitu and I will find out what.

It is that time of the year gain. Open season for nonsense. Like that Sasha Mutai has excellent value for Kenya Rugby. Mr Mutai’s candidature has been propped and pushed by an eternal Mean Machine called Tony Onyango. Onyango doesn’t understand the simple things in life like moving on. At 36, he’s still closely involved with Machine. But, only during elections and never when there’s any donation is to be done for a-Mean-Machine! He’s the poorest example of put your money where your mouth is. And it doesn’t stop there – He has lately become even more interested in the running of Rugby in Kenya – a big, tiny concept called the Ministry of Rugby whose international wing is called the International Fans Board. This idea is local rugby’s mahindi scandal. Pretends to be the greatest fan of the Kenya game but the motivation is only MONEY. Sells t-shirts everywhere in the world but no money ever comes to the game! TOnyango and group eats all of it. TOnyango, if you love the game, why don’t you make some royalty payments to the 7s team to supplement the sponsorship funds. You are riding on their sweat and blood without any shame
Enter Sasha. Tony and company know that their ripping off Kenya is about to end in Kenya Rugby’s next phase. Their ultimate nemesis is one Frank Sabwa. This man brooks no nonsense (remember open season for nonsense?). They are sure that Sabwa, having seen their operations closely at Las Vegas, will bring out the Big Stick. It is well within the character of the man to nyorosha maneno quite easily. Ask Kenya Harlequin. In the time of Aggrey Chabeda, now aspirant for KRFU Vice Chairman, they walked all over the Union. This changed dramatically with the entry of the Langata-bred Franco. Of course, Quins still don’t pay their full rent even with Nivea For Men money. Their hope is to push for Quins-friendly Board so that the inevitable revert to KRFU of their facilities doesn’t happen. Quins must not be allowed to control the union because they are tenants. This is why one James Absaloms is solidly on the campaign trail – an irrrrrritating one, it must be said. His attempts to score point even almost knocking out the hard working western Kenya sides which todate haven’t missed a fixture. SO, before we forget, TOnyango and company know that they can push Sasha around and continue ripping the game off not hindered by the al capone antics of Mr. Sabwa.
Then, there is the other big joke doing the rounds. That Aggrey Chabeda started the Rugby Super Series. Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, he deserves to be the most serious Kenyan sporting organization’s vice boss. That he is the big brain behind the universities’ Sharks Franchise. Hahaha! What rugby would Mr. Chabeda know to visualize such a concept? Did you ever see him play rugby for anyone? Who remembers him? Even you Old Guard who are always telling us about your mythical “In Our Days”? Aggrey was given a soft landing after a sound thrashing in the elections after many years of nothing in the board. In fact, he has done more for the game outside the board than inside it. He should remain there. No one is interested in his intrigues which he specializes in because no one in the game proper knows him. It is also unsurprising that he impresses other people unknown to the rigours of the actual game. Like Isaac Mwangi of Strathmore and that other clown of Nazarene University. God help us that this is the new generation of rugby opinion shapers!
Enjoy your AGM this week and remember that if you are drugged enough to vote into office some of these merry men, with little interest in the game, we shall remain entertained the whole year until the next elections (and we shall be around to chuckle loudly together).

your article has alot of rhetoric and nothing of value to readers.
Afew pointers,
1. mwhatever beef you have with T Onyango, we dont care sort it out with him or better still write him a letter
2.Sasha or whoever else is interested can run for any posts they desire, winning is another thing alltogether, standing i hear are Gabriel Ouko, Aggrey Chabeda, Sasaha Mutai, Emuye, Rombo and a Nax guy are contenders soo far
3. your analogy of Sabwa sorting out Quins is mere fiction, you should ask him directly.............. you will be shocked
4. Give us facts and not rumours otherwise let us continue in our normal PEDANTIC nature and suffer the consequences

Anonymous - you seem to write with a lot of bile and half baked truths. Your praise of Sabwa is laughable. Ask the guys who played at Barclays what used to happen with the allowances. As for Quins and the union, please check the records as regards the lease and the status of rent payments to date.
@Anonymous- what the hell are you smoking.. because i would sure love to be on that green grass you are on.. Sabwa? Give us a break.. it might as well be sunny with a chance of meat balls!
I fail to understand the logic and reasoning in the comments that
Shasha, should not be elected because one of his supporters is Onyango.
One should not support Machine when they attain a certain age.
Profits from selling any rugby related merchandise belongs to the union.
Sabwa went to Vegas to investigate the sale of Tshirts.
Being bred in langata is important in Sabwas C.V
Absoloms is not allowed to campaign for anyone.
Union positions are only for ex players with “x” number of caps.
Lack of caps makes Isaac Mwangi a clown.
Quins agenda has and will always be the avoidance of rent.
Please follow through to the only logical progression from your train of thought and,
Ask Raila to resign because of his support from rail removing thugs.
Tells us at what age one should stop supporting machine.
Start selling union Tshirts to supplement 7s team funds.
Convince everyone to bring up their kids in langata.
Ban campaigning for candidates in elections.
Ask for Omwelas resignation because he never played the game.
Ask Quins tenant to kick them out for non rent payment.
Why do I suspect that Anonymous1 is a close follower of the current GM? 1. Seems to have a problem with guys who still support Machine (GM left machine and moved 'on' to Nondies)
2. Has a problem with the T-Shirt Business (loss of income for the GM, after all the GMs main job description is to increase income)
3. Langata - ??
4. Quins are not paying rent and want to enjoy facilities - GM is being pushed by Nondies to get those facilities free as the club has suffered low numbers due to unstrategic location while Quins enjoys 3 teams in the league (Nondies/Impala have also lost bar-income crowd since Quins re did their clubhouse).-GM must sort this out.
5. That to be a rugby administrator you must have played rugby - get serious.
6. That Isaac Mwangi does not know anything of the game, well, he is the only one I know whose club has a FULL TIME coach (even giving Benja a contract was a problem for the Union) and I'm sure many envy this! Add to the fact that he has built a club over 5 years to become the national 7s champions.
