Safari Sevens hit by withdrawals

Georgia, Botswana and Morocco have decided to give this years former
Tusker Safari Sevens now known as Safaricom Safari Sevens a miss.
Their withdrawal is a big blow to a tournament that prides itself as
being the premier sevens tournament on the continent and yet despite
the over 40M sponsorship from various sponsors the Safari Sevens
still doesn't offer a single shilling as prize money. Rwanda who were
on standby and Shujaa will be included. Their is no place for
Strathmore Leos the national sevens champions and Kenya Harlequins in
this years event.

Tragic it is ! Safari 7s organisers should carefully vet the teams they intend to invite and maybe the prize money might serve as motivation ( though I think they do get some appearance monies?). Tis going to be a bit too boring seeing two Kenyan sides...

One word- GREED! is hurting the game. Its PAINFUL>

The safari sevens is now officially a big drinking and fornication party, and not about rugby in any way. Useless Georgia, Botswana and Morocco have withdrawn, allowing even weaker teams a chance to attend. Dont be surprised if the SA sevens circuit champions are invited and the Kenya sevens circuit champions left out. This is a useless tournament in rugby value, and too small and worthless for shujaa. We do not care if they lose in the pool stage get knocked out and proceed into major drinking and carousal with fans at the stands. As fans we would rather try to meet and mingle with shujaa over drinks in the stands than watch them play Rwanda and Tanzania.
P.s You will pay the highest entrance fees ever and may end up watching a Rwanda Vs Tanzania final.

At least EABL ensured one or two big teams (ranked higher than shujaa) attended. Safaricom sevens has gone to the dogs.
Its like inviting Sri-lanka,Western sahara, Central african republic, emerging super eagles, Pakistan, Nepal, and some club and college sides from India and cameroun to play the Harambee stars in a tournament and charge Kshs 1000 per day, claiming that its the premier soccer event in Africa.
Safaricom sevens is now about, alcohol sales, fornication and the pursuit of young, cheap and easy thrills, as opposed to any rugby related value. Its a pity its organised by the KRFU.

I have been to almost all the safari sevens since way back in 1996! I am surprised KRFU has not upto now started offering prize money! They should think about that, with all those sponsors!! 5 million prize money is adequate!!

This tournament is a joke. In fact it was more interesting attending Nivea For Men Christie Sevens. We watched great rugby from the quarters, the crowd was a pure rugby crowd and the organization was above par. Why the hell should we pay 1000 to watch hopeless teams and then drink expensive beers with people who know nothing about rugby!
Why cant Quins and Leos play, the Rwandan team came for Prinsloo and the best they could do was lose in the bowl! Uganda? Weren't they at Prinsloo last year and went nowhere!

now now people, relax the body! Safaricom 7's is going to be a world class event. After 14 years of Safari 7's the grounds have finally undergone major improvements allowing an extra 1500 fans to get in to the grounds and be comfortably seated in the new stands. I hear that there are plans to move the tournament to Sep or Oct after the IRB 7's circuit.

World class event!! Bcoz of a stand 2 sit a paltry 1500, thts taken 14yrs! Ad rather stand en watch NZ en Fiji,Than evry1 sits en we watch, rwanda TZ en zambia teams as the main aattraction. FYI the event is now, just slightly above the prinsloo 7's in stature.

Shall we all pray that it does not rain and turn the pitch into a swamp.
And that the union will realise that pitch drainage and grass condition is an investment they cant run away from.

I would pay more for a Quinz VS Leos game than Tanzania Vs Zambia Game

Give the tournament a chance. Its not KFRU's fault that teams have pulled out hey. Still where is the patriotism. Lets Rally behind Kenya all the way at the sevens. Anonymous

Look the biggest detractors of our nations are ourselves. why do we want to pull the tourney down like this......Dont come for the booze or women come for the RUGBY...

Patriotism my black a** Tz vs Rwanda?? If u were patriotic or pro rugby development, or followed merit, you wld then prefer leos en quins to be in the event. Its abt the krfu eating chums, booze en chips fungaz not RUGBY. If u believe the teams invited are world class, u must b in the wrong blog. This is rugby not netball.

come for RUGBY, What rugby? the reason we are complaining is becoz the is no 'rugby'..Lets hope on sunday its Kenya vs argentina, coz that might be the only rugby game ull see

Rugby is rugby, whether played in Rwanda, Tz, England, France, SA...even the top players started from zero. Big ups to the Safaricom 7s organisers for inviting the minnows! They will one day grow too. I bet no Kenyan ever imagined Uganda ever being African champs...!!! The game is bigger than y'all!
