Directorships for Sale?

How do you get there
When do you get there
How do you know it
When do you feel it
That all work you have done
And that you have borne the bane
Is now giving returns
That is just not pittance?

Sadly, the best run federation in the country is just another hotbed of who knows who? Scratch my back and I scratch yours? Decline at your own peril, for I will show you how. I received an interesting e-mail that chronicled just how easy it is to become a director, remain a director and also gain at your work place!

In the formative year of the Super Series, the idea was good and we all bought in. Unfortunately, no sponsors bought in. Until one individual convinced an entire group of companies, that it was worth their while. And the Jogoo Rugby Super Series was born. Next year, the said individual was co-opted into the board and the following year, elected as a director. The saviour of Kenyan Rugby.

Another tale is told of an individual, who managed to convince the security firm where he worked, that sponsoring rugby was a good thing, and they provided security services for the Safari Sevens for free. By next year, the said individual was a director, despite the fact that he had failed to be elected initially, but by next year, the carrot of the sponsorship was still dangling, and elected to the board he was.

It has been common knowledge that a major Telco was interested in the Safari Sevens for years. And how to get them more interested? Get MJ's blue eyed boy onto the board, and get him to push it. What else he did on the board, only he knows, but he was quickly used and dumped by the same board!

Another one is told, of a gym for use, then join the board. Two years later, and no other benefit gleaned, out goes the chap! Though the gym remained.

So for those of you interested in getting onto the board, I have just showed the way. Bring money to the union, irrespective of returns and you will be guaranteed a place on the board. Forget glowing CV's, and track records in rugby management, administration and development. If you have nothing to bring to be eaten the table, that leaves you out.

And now the most interesting. Since their tenures as directors are fast coming to a close, two directors are looking to lay their legacy. This they intend to do in two ways. First, by bringing a huge sponsorship to the Union, second, by bringing revenue and recognition to their clubs, albeit belatedly. Of course they are the individuals behind the whole thing playing out and using miserable pawns to do their donkey work. Let them dangle whatever carrot in front of the greedy union, but always remember, the clubs are ultimately the UNION.

Do vote RED or GREEN on our little poll on the right.

Thank you for your clarification of whatever facts. I also have the chronology of events and you have confirmed the last step I wrote about..

As a former director, we would be grateful if you could be clarifying issues more often for us.

As for Unga, Mr. Mcitrik is an honourable man and he is not the one I received info on!

Last time you came guns blazing when presented with facts you didn't even acknowledge them!

Mr ruggerbug,
all directors are elected by the membership of clubs and there has been more than 20 since 2001 are suggesting all bought thier way to K.R.U remember it is the clubs who are in the majority not KRU votes 4 out of 20 members ,so if you have nothing to post do some research as most of these directors have given time and yes even thier own money to support kenyan rugby before the so called sponsors came on board over the last 4 years , so list your chronology
@ hall 13 i have just listed the facts what more do you want
Ruggerbug kindly clarify or if you are gentleman withdraw and apologise which i doubt you would

I cannot apologise for stating facts! I said the director was co-opted onto the board first then elected the following year. In the year the director was co-opted, he scored a measly 4 votes in the elections and was therefore rejected by clubs.

A certain gentleman was co-opted in the first year of the Super Series after managing the sponsorship from Unga group! Fact or fiction?

I did not say all directors "buy" their way into the union... I merely listed those who did!

If you feel this was an unwarranted attack on your person, I apologise.. but I did not name you.. you brought yourself out!

for your information i never stood for elections before co-option check your facts ,i joined the board on 2002 and was elected on 2003 and left on 2005 after losing by a vote in a democratic election kindly state the right facts and le said remember board members are elected by clubs and the 4 union votes , so are you implying clubs sell thier votes ,
Most directors give thier time and efforts to help run rugby in this country and bring with them a lot of ideas gained in running club rugby that is why the chairmen of most senior clubs at one time or other have served on the Board , i can see your article has no substance due to yor failure to prove your allegations despite being presented with the facts a sad state of affairs my friend whoever you are since you have chosen to stage your cowardly attack behind your cloak of anonyimity on directors perons and reputation and the integrity of voting clubs , kindly table your evidence with names ,times and date or just withdraw like a true gentleman would do
