According to Willy Ombisi, the Kenya Rugby Union Director incharge of seven-a-side rugby, the kit has been held up at the Jomo kenyatta International Airport since Monday. “The customs people want Ksh1.2 million to clear the kit,” Ombisi said. Frank Sabwa, the KRU secretary has been at the airport for the past two days trying to clear the kit.
Ombisi added that everything possible was being done to ensure that the kit arrives for the second match against Wales.
So what is the Dar story all about?
24 Comments:
you think Sabwa can spend 2 days bila dish at the airport????
is the KRA guy a tanzanian Auka?????
they continue to insult our intelligence as usual, use the 5m for dinner at Laico to clear the kit...................................
Have these KRU mandarins ever heard of "plan B"? When it became apparent that the kit was unavailable with two days to go they should have bought other jerseys/kit in Dubai. A set of 12 cant cost more than 60k!This is an embarassment of epic proportions. An international team without kit?
They were in a hurry to get to Dubai.read free trips, nonsense guys pull up your socks, and they boast of 2 team managers and a director!performance also pathetic.
Ati customs want 1.2m?...
This sounds A LOT like the kit was 'accompanied' by an assortment of electronics/spare part/etc...
Why would customs want 1.2m for kit that's supposed to be tax-free in the first place?!? Plus even if each shirt cost KSh10,000/- it would still be valued at KSh120,000/-
Do the math, and neither explanation makes sense (ie diversion to TZ, or customs overcharge)
Once again, something very fishy is going on here
THE KIT ONLY GOT HERE YESTERDAY IF AT ALL BY WEDNESDAY IT WAS NOT IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!!
SHOW PROFF OF DATES THIS IS A SMALL COUNTRY WE KNOW !!
Casual Observer
I am afraid your story seems to make the most sense. Wikileaks i tell you. Keep spilling the beans.
PEDANTIC
The bit on Sabwa bila dish at the airport is just too funny. Umenifinish.
Has anyone checked Raymond Oruos house for the missing kit?
FACTS
KIT ARRIVES IN KENYA SUNDAY.
KIT AT AIRPORT BEING CLEARED (KIT MEANS SEASON KIT I.E. BAGS, TRAINING KIT, TRACK SUITS, POLOS, ETC FOR TEH WHOLE SEASON).
VALUE OF KIT IS 2.4 MILLION ATTRACTING 50% IMPORT DUTY.
EXEMPTION IS GRANTED ON CASE TO CASE BASIS ON MY MINISTER FOR FINANCE, A PROCESS THAT TAKES UPTO 4 WEEK.
KIT CLEARED ON THURSDAY EVENING AND PUT ON KQ FLIGHT TO ARRIVE IN DUBAI AT 0120 ON FRIDAY.
TANZANIAN NATIONAL PICKS BAG AND LEAVES HERS.
KQ BACK TRACE HER BY FINDING HER ADDRESS IN TZ THEN FIDNIGN WHERE SHE IS IN DUBAI.
KIT DELIVERED TO THE TEAM
FACT: KIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN NBO 4 WEEKS AGO SO SAID EXEMPTION COULD BE APPLIED FOR AND GRANTED... PERIOD.
WHY WAIT FOR THE LAST MINUTE THEN ASKING FOR FAVOURS.
SIMPLE FACT: LACK OF PLANNING!
NO FAVOURS ASKED FOR DUTY PAID IN FULL.
IN FACT THIS PROBLEM IS COS OF QUINS WHO HEPAD TAX SO KRA REVENGING. SO AB STOP PRETENDING U CAN PLAN OTHERWISE WHEN UR THE CAUSE OF KENAY RUGBY PROBLEMS
KIT ORDER TURN AROUND TIME IS 8 WEEKS STUPID...KIT MEANS FULL KITTING BTW NOT JUST PLAYING SHIRTS.
So, let me get this straight:
1) KRU claims that 50% tax on 2.4m of kit for the NATIONAL TEAM has been paid out.
2) KRU claims the GOVERNMENT OF KENYA is revenging on the NATIONAL UNION because QUINS did not pay tax for their own kit.
Observations:
Since when does the GOK (or any government worldwide) pass on someone's tax requirements to another entity?
Never happened, never will, here's why: if both Quins and KRU need to pay tax, they both MUST PAY. If some sport equipment is exempt from tax or any item(s) destined for the national team is tax-free, the respective officials would be told on the spot (no favors etc).
Two: If indeed KRU paid 1.2m, Sabwa et al, must account for that. It is hard to believe that GOK would be so harsh on its own ambassadors, and suddenly require NEW taxes.
Again, no amount of twisting facts will shield KRU kleptocrats from their responsibilities.
disasters happen. otherwise 9/11 would never have happened. disaster response is what really counts. speaking neutrally, the KRU response was more than adequate. customs can want any amount of money. it's really a matter of commodity classification. sports equipment are not yet exempt. really silly but that is the reality!
And the Fat Qwhines are out...Karibu FAT Q's
As much as the Qwhine is the root cause of all this problem, their should have been a back up plan, (Kit incase shit happens). the national embarrassment of Kenya playing with Zim kit cannot be left to slide.
Someone has to be fired in this list of mine
1. Omwela of Ayimba school of rugby
2. Willy mafioso of IRB
3. Auka Black ice
4. Newton halflife the Kenyan Mascot TM
5. Benja for being Benja and not a coach as a deflection to this national embarassment.
This is just constant crap that must stop..hehe!
The facts being put forward as to why the kit was late are nothing but excuses at this stage. The most glaring fact was Kenya playing on the big stage in Zimbabwe kit. There was gross incompetence in the management of the kit issue.
The kit issue must be divorced from the team's performance or lack thereof. Tying the two and trying to solve them in this vigilante method will not come up with any useful result.
To Mamapima - On the issue of Quins evading tax on kit, if you have credible evidence and hate Quins as much as you evidently do, go to KACC and make a report. There are facilities for cowardly people to report anonymously. It is a little akin to this blog where you can hide behind anonymity and throw slime at anyone
@ GOD KILL THE QWHINE
IF KIT ORDER TIME IS 8 WEEKS THEN THE KIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ORDERED AT LEAST 12 WEEKS AGO TO ALLOW THE 8 WEEKS PLUS 4 WEEKS FOR PROCESSING EXEMPTIONS.QUINS OR THE MINISTRY OF RUGBY DO NOT ORDER YOUR KIT FOR YOU SO STOP GIVING EXCUSES IN SOCIAL FORUMS AND GET OFF YOUR FAT AND THIN BUTTS(D.O AND G.M RESPECTIVELY)AND DO THE JOBS THAT YOU DRAW SALARIES FOR.
Tony Mrembo..
Why are you chomoaing periods here... the message is what counts. its a blog my friend and hapo kwa Choose an identity as you have done is an option for the blogger.
I am more on the Fat Qwhines side on this issue.
have you ever heard of the saying "the truth will out"
Then iam the messiah of the truth.
He he.. I'm enjoying this. So why no order the kit 8 weeks before the event? Like we did not know we were going.. he he.
if u did not notice 12 weeks ago before commonwealth. or even 8 weeks ago. and actually kit order was made then when negotiations with new kit supplier started. kit was in kenya on time, delayed by KRA. was relaesed on thursday evening, flown to Dubai, misplaced at airport.
so if ur sooo good at logistic u Qwhine after Nivea dropped u why are u still using their branded kit? that was over 8 weeks ago??
haha! ati Omwela of Ayimba school or rugby.
Auka black ice..hehe! forgot anytime..
Mamapima for KRU chair.
@ kit master -and therin lies the kru problem.. so busy worrying about what Qwines are doing, they forget their own work... Qwines only need to deal with their 100 supporters.. KRU has to deal with 40M Kenyans!!!
mamapima for kru life president, hihihi! too funny
So...is Sabwa back ama now he has gone to George to mess up more kit theyaz?
Two weeks ago the design for the playing shirts had not been picked yet.
BTW If u knew that Sabwa actually in many cases is teh work horse and bails KRU alot of times... he is unlike other guys on the board the guy who gets into the mix and does the actual work. not just sit and use his title..
Si Kwa Ubaya us Qwhines hate him cos he has stopped us from taking advantage of the game. He has sorted out the lease issue but we must get rid of him to continue kulaing from the game. On him and Impala stop us. teh rest of u rugby guys we kula u heavily on and off the pitch
