Just felt I needed to put my two cents in. Regular readers on this blog know where I stand. And to me it is fairly simple. Someone is clueless. I have always been against the people taking accolades for when things are good and pointing fingers when they are bad. And it is a vicious cycle that will always continue unless we break it. Without going to specifics, only one constant has remained and that must be the problem. We have experimented or given credence to different variables but so long as the constant remains, it must have a bearing on everything, both good and bad. The environment has not changed, and it is not changing. Until we put systems in place, we are going to be junkies. High one minute, low the next, without realising just why it is happening. I spoke about monkeys last week and I'm dead serious. So long as the forest remains the same, nothing really changes. So until we change the forest, let us not hold our hopes too high.
We as the public are also to blame. With unrealistic expectations. I said this last year.. what have we invested in the team to expect them to win a leg of the circuit? What have we invested in terms of a structure or feeder program to keep churning out players? Will our perennial excuse be unavailability of players? So what do we do to make these players available? Oh, and there is such a thing as ageing that makes players permanently unavailable! So how do we mitigate against this? Or what plans are in place? With the public expectation at an all time high, what chance does the coach have to blood in new players? Though some players on the current team would not pass RUG 101: Catch and Pass, that is a failure of the whole system, not them as individuals. And our inability to graduate them as quickly as possible to RUG 499: Total Rugby, is also a failure of us all. Basic skill is our fall back and without that we have nowhere to go. And that is also severely lacking. And I'm rambling, sorry, just venting.
What next then you ask? Change the constant and move the variables around. You might just build something, or come up with a new formula - one that works.
Have a good rest of the week guys.

good piece here. I do agree, without the structures we will go no where. If you look at the plans USA & Russia have in place,we are going to fall way behind them too if we haven't already. The game has become an Olympic sport now. Kenya beware!
Nice chain of thoughts but please be more specific on which structures need buttressing. We all can generalize but only the chosen few can be specific. The devil is in the details.
Should we have a closer look at the development of age grade players? I watched Scrum Down which airs on Citizen every Saturday morning and Eric Situma, the guest during the edition, lamented on the development program being cut short because funds run dry.How many of us remember the ground work done by Stuart Urquhart in the late 1990's? Why did it stop? What home grown solution can we conjure up for the age grade system? Should clubs be encouraged to have age grade teams apart from the Kenya Cup and Ess sides? What happened to the Under 21 league? The round robin tournaments especially during school holidays was one avenue to develop and scout talent.
@Were.. he he, now you're behaving like the trees. Can you afford my hourly rate? Or do you want it for free?
Anyway, just joking. Some of my ideas are rotting on KRFU shelves for last 15+ years. Just like Gova, no will to implement! PERIOD.
They have everything, but...
@DataMiner...send me your ideas via my email-wanjalawere@gmail.com
another funny dude..So that you do what with them ideas?
@ mamapima...i dust them off and use them to good effect. You can also send me your ideas. Ama?
This is hw you get your stories for BD...
@mamapima..not really. As a journalist I have to speak to the people on the ground -people like you. I am not an expert so I rely on contacts who give me a heads up on what is happening. People are a journalist's greatest assets. However, I have to verify the information as well. Rugby Kenya blog, reading other rugby sites like sportsarena and telegraph.co.uk keeps me in the loop on what is happening in the world of rugby. I must say the blog has got some good analysis e.g. this week's weekly rumble.Cheers guys!
We could start with the union... the whole set up is wrong...
Lets set up branches countrywide.. this will help spread the game to the grass roots... the bosses are scared of this coz this would mean, God Forbid, that funds actually reach the place they were meant for...
Then lets develop U-18, U21 sides... where players will graduate to the senior national team... These are the teams we should send the invitational tournaments sevens tournaments. we will not be faced with the problem he hav now with the 7s team of transition...
No matter who is charge, without such structure we cannot have sustained success... we'l remain the fluke team.
I suppose then the next question is very simply, does the Union have the will and a way to go out to set up these much called for structures.
If say i wanted to set up a KRFU Moyale branch, is there a set path, or set of conditions to be followed
At the last AGM, the issue of regional unions was raised but this was quickly cut down with the excuse that there is no money to run them.
My question is, if there are people in the regions already running the game, why can't they be moulded into rudimentary unions and then developed from there. Why do we always use lack of money as an excuse for not stretching our brains?
The KRU is capable of spending tonloads of money in meaningless awards ceremonies or in pimping up KRU officials for Safari Sevens (which does nothing but enrich those on the inside)but when it comes to the core business (facilitating efficient playing of the game) they cry lack of money!!
They insist that they own the game yet a lot of the decisions made go contrary to good governance of the game. Things need to change:-
1) The development officer must either cede the executive roles he plays in the KRU or the KRU should appoint him the XO and get another development officer
2) The GM must either take up his role as the KRU XO or quit. We cannot have someone milking a percentage of any sponsorship that comes in and not performing the core duties that he is appointed for
3) The KPIs for the GM must be reexamined and re-set. The KRU cannot get sponsorship for the leagues and leaves clubs to fight for survival on their own and yet wants to cash in on any commercial opportunity generated by the clubs' activities. The sevens circuit is a case in point. 4 million in sponsorship of which only 1m goes directly into the game and then only to clubs hosting the legs. The rest goes into 'administration' This equation is wrong!!
The real owners of the game of rugby are the players and through them the clubs. The KRU are but stewards who have abrogated themselves the roles of owners. This must be reversed. The initiative that was started by clubs to have the union board comprised of top club representatives needs to be revived and prosecuted to the bitter end!!
haha! Qwhines
Andruid.. u want to set up a sub-union, its given in curent constitution how to go about it.
Quins and Tonyango u still want to get on board thro the Back door. u just win the elections as is?
let me ask you, what makes u think that structure wont be dominated by the nairobi clubs or more by ngong road? why not provide an equal chance to sell your agenda and go implement.
The person who posted the last anonymous comment did well to remain anonymous. That you want individuals to set up sub unions as written in the constitution is ludicrous to say the least. Such utter drivel! It is the mandate, nay duty of the KRU to propagate governance structures such as sub unions. You sound like one of those guys adding padding to their backsides at the secretariat rather than getting down to work.
Mentioning names of individuals and working institutions (like Quins) doesn't lend credence to your post, it just echos how empty you are of ideas. Which confirms to all why that secretariat is moribund.
Pull your collective heads out of your rather ample/or extremely skinny backsides and get to work for the game. You will not be judged by how many anonymous posts you put up or how witty your attempted put down of an individual is. Nor by your holier than thou pontificating about which IRB board you sit on. Let us see you drive the spread of the game then perhaps no one will bother electing your godfather Sabwa out of office
0 points. alot of nonsense here. Some are talking from informed angle, others(Qhwines the fat ones) are not. just tree chopping.
thequinulovetohate just shows why the rest of kenya rugby hates u. read what is written carefully and understand. do show us how much school you skived.
You are worse than MoR. U have been stealing from the game and shouting laudest about governance to try cover your tracks.
when things are tough, first ones to quit (Ham, Gabi), when things are good, want to get on the band wagon from the back door. not to mention Sammy who would fleece 1.2m every year in the name of fixing grounds, when situma was trained in only he only uses about 1/3 of teh amount to fix the gorunds which u continue to spoil every other day. Not to mention the ex-executive officer quins affiliated who stole kit and kept in his house. not to mention the bad manners of your coches attached to the National Team who keep picking players who dont even play in ur second team to go enjoy kenya team facilities. list is endless
Oh quins is well organised, come see how we get sponsors, nooooo we all kno wnivea came cas one of u was sleeping with someone at nivea. when the campany saw no returns they quickly got out, you tried that with Orange thro that chick of allan onyango (infact that chick of kenya rugby) and it did not work.
so dont try tell us how u know better. Fat, Qwhinning, Immoral...
Wikileaks, you haven't said anything that adds value to the discussion. You can talk about stealing from the game until you turn blue in the face. If you have the proof then table it and let those who stole pay for it. Otherwise, it remains bar talk.
What is rather obvious is how Quins is whipping everyone's butt. the league will be wrapped up by game 3 of the second leg then we can set up a help desk and deal with demented persons of your ilk and listen to your senseless babbling.
Quins are organised based on what standards?
whiping everybody with teh help of refs like cap who have no morals like the rest of u..
organised in raruaing each others wives while drinking whisky.
proof is all those guys dont have any of their jobs... ex executive officer, ex grounds manager..
Girls, Once again people miss the point and the real issues, and engage in petty club bickering... This isnt about quins nor Impala...
Typical kenyan... its everywhere.. MPs are doing it... FKL/KFF is doing it and Rugby is doing...
club before country... Impala vs Quins egos... the rest of rugby fraternity sit n shut up, a bunch of cheer girls we entertain this nonsense.. NKT!
Nothing about the topic at hand but I guess it's a good read since wikileaks has chomoad Qwhines xfiles. All that has been said is true, all rugby guys know this, only difference is that it's now been documented on a blog.
1. We know we need structures
2. We know Qwhines nyandua each others wifes.
3. We know Ray, Herbo, Sam are thieves n conmen
4. We know when things are hot Qwhines away, Ham n Gabi
5. We know that Orange mama has nyaduad a whole
rugby team. Same as that Resolution mama n her pal, same as that brown MOR mama n her cuzo. Qwhines r emoral to the bone.
But all this don't contribute to the discussion but interesting stuff to know like number 5 so that you don't skinny dip into the pool.
Mamapima aka Fred Ollows, the fact that a few idle minds write rubbish about persons who do not bother to rebutt the same doesn't mean it has been documented. Why don't you stick to surfing porn on KRU airtime and keep your idle fantasies off the public domain!!
TheQuinWhatever, you are EXTREMELY stupid! So Mamapima has convinced you that (s)he is Fred Ollows because (s)he says (s)he played for Barclays and Impala?
Dont cry when you are on the whip!
