Weekend Games

And a Happy New Year to you all. The league is not giving us much time to get into stride but here goes.

League leaders Harlequins are away to Strathmore, Mean Machine are at home to KCB, Mwamba host Impala and Nakuru travel to play Nondies. First round form notwithstanding, the long break will be more of a factor methinks. What with festive season traveling and all, I'm sure most clubs have not had smooth training sessions.

MinerData - Quins will labour over Strathmore. The students are fitter and more disciplined. They will still win however by about 10 points. KCB will dominate Machine in the forwards. Given Machine will be quicker but I don't think their winless season is about to end. KCB with a bonus point. The pick of the day will obviously be the Mwamba/Impala game. After succumbing to their largest loss ever in the opening game of the season, Mwamba have only lost one other match and now lie third on the table. They will be no pushover, but I feel their big 4 will be easily neutralised. Impala by 8 on this one.

Lastly I'm tempted to believe the white shirts are confused about what the league is about and with Nakuru on the ascendancy and finding their players after the big raid two seasons ago, I give them this one by a score.

Do have a good weekend and enjoy your rugby.

@ Dataminer, I don't see Quins 'labouring' over Strathmore, the decision by Strathmore to play the game on the smaller Impala pitch will haunt them. The heavier Quins players will have the advantage of less distance to cover. Predictions
1)Quins over Strathmore with a bonus point
2)Mwamba over Impala - no bonus to either side
3) Nakuru over Nondies - close match
4) KCB over Machine - cricket scores

Im personally very excited the league is back on.
Here we go:
Strath vs Quins
I must admit I was at the Quins training session on Thursday. They had a full game session. On the basis of the performance,I feel sorry for Strath. The Quins lads looked like they had not been on a break. The played with flair, aggression & brain. The fact that 10 of them have been training with the 7s squad means they are still in good shape.
The surprise resignation of rugby guru Charles Cardovillis wont be felt now, but may come to haunt Quins later.
Quins by 60 & more!
Machine vs KCB
This I feel will be scrappy. Both teams have had shaky preparations. But KCB will eventually find their rthym & walkover the young campus lads.
The negative media releases relating to the sacking of rugby legend Tank, will only add more fire to a team that want to set the record right.
KCB by more than 20.
Nondies vs Nakuru
This may be a real thriller just because Nakuru need to win & Nondies have quality individuals but are a poor team.
Nakuru's grit, power & general need to win will see them overcome the former Kenya rugby powerhouse.
Nakuru will win it by more than 10. I smell a bonus point for the away team.
Mwamba vs Impala
On paper this is the game of the weekend.
On the pitch, Mwamba will need to continue the fine league form to beat an Impala team littered with Quality.
Mwamba's backbone have been training with the 7s squad during the break, & should be the key to any sort of success that they hope of having today.
Impala will win this one as long as they send the right team out. They have been known to tinker with their squads & it has haunted them once this season against Quins.
Their sheer determination to keep in touch with the league leaders wont be enough I believe.
I give this one to Mwamba by more than 10. Dont be surprised by my call, but this will happen. I feel sorry for a very good Impala side. This is the game that hands the title to Quins.
Those are my predictions. Deep down I hope Impala win to keep the league interesting.
Have a good one lads! And please keep the blog positive!

Watched the mamba game, which was yet another game won by their forwards. Impala concentrated on the big 4 en got massacred by the tight 5 en loose three. It ain't only about the big 4, no more. Funny thing is, no one in mwamba is good enough for the Kenyan national 15s team and the larger training pool.

well done to mwamba and nakuru, nondies have nice players and even better, the most qualified coach on paper but they keep perfoming dismaly, mwamba has been training hard collectively and it has payed off, lets see if they are consistent. As for KCB and harlequins they had a easy field day.
