For want of anything to write, and not to repeat myself, read my Weekly Ramble of close to 2 years ago. Most of the African rugby sports writers are now itching over this and most of what I get on the wires are the plan to split CAR or is it Africa into two. Well I said it then and nothing happened, and now we weep. We are doomed as a continent. And with this as a World Cup year, it has dominantly been on my mind. With Namibia as our sole representative, are they able to effectively represent the rest of Africa? Is that really the best that Africa can do? Can Africa get better given the resources? Would a side like the African Leopards be able to compete? And I still insist, the IRB can do more!
The Rugby World Cup will come and go and four years later, we will be discussing the same thing. That CAR board terms run for four years plays nicely in this cycle and that no change will occur (since the IRB will not support a rival organisation) in this same period means we have no recourse. Secede? The new buzzword in Africa and sounding very attractive to many, and in more ways than one. The right of a people to self determination!
Have a good week.
