KRFU and Quins war breaks out in press as elections loom large

Simmering tensions between the two have finally erupted in the press
over use of facilities at the RFUEA ground.

Not a good sign for the game but all sides urged to settle the
differences (or scores?)
Or is it election fever with KRFU chairman Richard Omwela feeling the
heat of his opponents Michael Mwangi Muthee and Mad Max Muniafu both
who go with the initials MMM curiously.

One thing certain and within the context of the jurisdiction of the
KRFU constitution is that Sabwa, Nigga Odhiambo and Fred Ollows cannot
wait to see the back of Omwela who is a sure bet to lose the coming
elections. Only GM Auka seems to be putting in a word for Omwela among
the voters but this is unlikely to turn the tide.

Omwela has capitulated to club demands and agreed to hold the
elections at RFUEA. Earlier Nairobi Club a non traditional rugby venue
but more so comfortable for cigars and cocktails was the hitherto
chosen venue. This was seen as a move to lock out many rugby diehards
particularly the 'much loved' Ministry of Rugby.

By bringing Quins to the frontline of his wars Omwela has cheapened
himself by trying to distract the real agenda of the elections.
Muniafu has galvanised the clubs and in particular the Bungoma rugby
vehicle project is his brainchild. This time round clubs are not
buying Omwela's vibes and are ready to part ways with him.

The Barclays/Machine axis have a grind to pick with Omwela as he has
failed to save Mean Machine from relegation yet a season ago he and GM
Auka Gecheo spared Nondies from the axe. Its now payback time for them
and with glee. All will watching from HQ.

well, all good times come to an end.Omwela had his and he did quite some good for local rugby but then again....yeah. We need to rejuvinate the management of the sport more so coming at the heels of the cabinet paper and pending sport bill. Management of sports is not the preserve of any one group. Indeed i even welcome the idea of an outsider (no rugby background)running the show so long as they have the requisite management skills.
I do hope that Max and Mwangi can come up with a winning formular though. between them they have enough experience in providing leadership to the management team that will steer the game to new heights.

Two tenants are fighting for ownership of a ground that is not theirs!

U Quin howo can u surely want to charge KRU 32000 to use ur showers yet u pay rent 25k a month. if so KRU should charge commerical rate for rent...

Now you are talking, no one wants to bell the cat, we the fraternity are all acting mouse yet it’s not a cat to be belled but a fellow mouse pretending to be the cat of Rugby. We need a motion touching on the union property and leases to make them reflect reality or the tenant be declared in breach of the current lease, otherwise what stops say Impala from asking for a car wash yard?

I still fail to understand how a landlord continuously complains about an unruly tenant without taking action.

Y'all don't even know the contents of the lease agreement. KRU just cant do shit about it. So Quinshataz shut up...even on this one,we are still UNBEATEN..kula hiyo

arte u saying omwela sold teh union out?

Let's not leap in bila facts. Here are some hard facts that may just make some of you zip up

1) The union owns squat. The owner of the land is RFUEA and even the KRU lease expires in October 2011. This lease they got on the pretext that if they had it mad cash would be poured by IRB for grounds development. The lease period has expired and only the Safaricom stands have been added to the grounds. Meanwhile RFUEA has received the royal sum of Ksh 0 as rent over the said lease period.KRU has with impunity occupied grounds without paying a single cent in rent.
2) The KRU claims to have spent money rehabilitating the facilities for JWRT and yet they are riding on the work of this 'unruly tenant'
3)The KRU claims to have bought the Ligi Ndogo grounds. A search at the lands registry will tell you who the real owner of the grounds is and who now has a 5 year lease for the Ligi grounds
4) The KRU is the party in breach of the current lease, a fact that has Richard Mlevi and Fat Sabwa shaking and vowing to die together despite the fact that they hate each other.
5) Nowhere does being a tenant mean that your landlord can make use of part of the rented premises as he wishes without the consent of the tenant and reasonable compensation.

The KRU cant really do anything to Quins and as in the past Omwela knows that he cant take Quins to court for it will expose him big time. Fact is he sold out and now tries to play saint in front of kina Sabwa. Quins are tenants by right and not by favour and that has been the status since 1953. Omwela you tell the wazungus one thing but the truth is you negotiated and signed a document which you now play dumb and deaf to.KRU own nothing as we speak. Not even the ligi ndogo grounds. Myke Rabar might buy you out there too.

Richard Omwelas Office
1. In exchange of rent to RFEUA, KRU pays insurance and rates among others. Thats why RFUEA wants to write off rent amount owed.
2. IRB could only give grounds development grant to Unions showing atleast a 5 year lease on a grounds. when the transfer was done, IRB discontinued teh grant due to a scandal in chile.
3. So did u want to continue holding the lease and charging national teams for tarining yet you spend nothing on the development of the grounds. Shame on You.
2. Other than fixing ur bar and showers, what else have u ever spent a coin on at RFUEA? correction EABL?
3. KRU maintains grounds, put up the extra shower, paid 60% of borehole while Patrons paid 40%, installed new stands thro Safcom Foundation. Extension of office block coming up before new season. mobile gym paid 2.8m by Orange 1.2m by KRU.
4. Over 50% of ligi ndogo purchase is complete. paid by resources generated from safari sevens (KRL), complete purchase and transfer on-going and Unga will deliver vacant posession to KRU.
5. Only reason Nyamodi wants to run for Director is to defend lease when it comes up for renewal in september.
6. When Sam Muraya used to maintain grounds for safari sevens, hwe would draw 1.2m every year on that pretext. Eric Situma used a third of that amount with results...
7. Quins continued occupation of the ground denies the resource to other rugby clubs who want to hire teh facility and denies Union much needed revenue. KRU members should insist it becomes free for hire to allow whovever wants use to hire and proper maintenance of the grounds.
8. Niendelee ama Nisiendelee...

with the way things are going and national teams cannot use RFUEA, we may soon have safari 7s held at Nairobi Club. he he

In October 2011, Quins will be playing at either 1. Sadili Oval 2. World Hope Kawangware (to maintain the ngong road connection). 3. City Stadi (taking rugby mashinani but also the potential chance to meet the Gor beauties). make your choice

Spoke to a few of the Kenya Sevens players and they have no idea what the press articles are on about. They still train at RFUEA and enjoy the hot shower facilities provided by this 'unruly tenant' Let's deal with facts and avoid getting caught in Richard Mlevi's campaign trickery.

If KRU has created extra showers and their 'unruly tenant' is causing them grief over the use of the tenant's showers, why don't they take the pittance they are offering and use it to run their 'new, VVIP showers' for their squads? You got it right, because these were a scam to skim JWRT cash (along with the improvements to the Impala changing rooms at the cricket pavilion) and what was done is not even fit for storage of kit!!

@ Commissioner of Lands
Your facts are as always based on theory and way off the practicality of reality to quote you.

Maybe its time the truth on the new stands at RFUEA comes out. As much as the Safaricom Foundation would like to feel credited with this new structure, truth of the matter is the stands were a donation from CMC Motors/Engineering and they paid the bill for the new stands. The millions received from Safaricom Foundation were not spent on the stands but rather put into the Kenya Rugby Limited account (not KRU)to gain plenty of interest. This money sitting at CFC Stanbic account together with the profits of 2009 and 2010 Safaricom Sevens are being used to continuously pay deposit for the purchase of the Ligi Ndogo Unga grounds.

Silly logic to keep money that could be used on meaningful Kenya Rugby development but then again the signatories of Kenya Rugby Limited are Richard Omwela, Rogger Bebbington and Asio Owiro. So where are the purported owners of the ground KRU represented in all this ? nowhere as Omwela and cohorts keep a tight lid on issues. And who does Chabeda represent in all these matters as grounds development chairman?

Why not use the title deed of the RFUEA then to seek finance for the purchase of the grounds next door? Or is there more than meets the eye with RFUEA refusing to cede to KRU. As per the borehole KRU did not pay a single cent rather it was well wishers and the patrons who footed the entire bill.

When a tenant brings issues, look for a new one. though i think the best thing would be to keep the premises and hire it out on a weekend basis to the highest bidder. The grounds remain in mint condition and maximise on returns.my fifteens sense..

Hey Quin, none of you is denying that you asked KRU for 32,000 per month yet you pay only 25,000. Seems like you are asking actually asking KRU to increase the rent immediately. or you guys didnt think about that

Has Absaloms Juma been sacked by Nyamodi who is now feigning ignorance on the whole issue.

Richard Omwela's office said...

Anonymous 11:31 - The water and electricity bills paid by Quins per month are way in excess of the Ksh 32,000 Quins is asking the union for.

In this blog i happened to mention that RO of Ayimba school of rugby (ASR) killed his political career by not firing Benja.. Now lets get Max in as we need a rugby mind at the top. I see we all agree that RO's time has come. Perhaps now he can do his Doctorate at ASR...

The Fat Qwhine. Do not throw stones from the roof of a glass house. You might just find yourself with no home when the right stone is thrown at you.

You are tenants of KRU and KRU is the rugby fraternity. who you are making enemies with.

Personally i think its high time the union chased you guys. We are tired of your nooooonsense.

Learn from Black ice GM, best keep quiet and enjoy the your current situation i.e enjoying the best ground in Kenya and paying peanuts as rent while milking thousands per month than make noise and find yourself homeless.

So FAT QWHINE shut UP.

the drama and mind games are on. with impala and KCB sponsoring a motion for RFUEA grounds to be made national stadium with anyone who needs to use it to hire it out on first come first served ...

this will be juicy indeed...

Thanks Nyende for spilling the beans....so RFUEA have not renewed KRU's lease...hehehehehehehe. I think KRU should think about moving to Kenya Science or the City Council ground at Dagoretti.

Anonymous said...

rugby lovers, there is alot of arm twisting in KRU and 'under table' deals going on . i wont be surprised if harlequins maintain their tenancy @ RFUEA we all know when push comes shove they will bring out their big guns.
further more elections being around the corner...... ......

Anonymous said...

So why was KRU vice-chairman in the Quins changing room promising them nothing will happen to them? He even bought them a crate of beers fro victory over Impala

Anonymous said...

Nyende poorly and stupid unresearched one sided article. lazy arm chair journalism. its not lost to all you were also a quin...

Anonymous said...

quins and their big guns only have two votes. Mwangi's camp says they will support Nyamodi for Director, have Quins vote mwangi but once he is in the chair, they will betray quins and kick them out of rfuea. If RFUEA joke, GoK has power to cancel the lease and reissue to Kenya RU. After all, sirikal is marwa

Anonymous said...

A lot of idle conjecture. The head lease remains with RFUEA for some time still. RFUEA are hesitant to renew the KRU lease because of dishonesty at the start (lies that IRB was giving development grants while those grants had stopped more than a year before).

The motion by Impala and KCB is nothing but spiteful. There is really no basis as it presumes that KRU has ownership of the grounds which is not the case. If an AGM is used to discuss KRU contracts with third parties, then soon even the employment and kit supply or security contracts may be made the subject of motions to be discussed.
