Weekly Ramble

A lot has been said in all manner of places regarding the new KRU board and a lot is still to be said. I said it on the election day itself I did not expect much from them, expecting the tide to be ever upwards as I assumed when you're down there is no further place to go. Well I'm not going to be the judge on that one, but suffice to say it will take them time to get back to my ground zero. The one thing I give them full marks for is moving some matches to a more spacious venue for the spectators. Suffice to say it was a different venue, but rugby has and will continue to be played in a soccer stadium and on a pitch with a running track around it. Facilities for spectators at rugby matches have been appalling and this was a real change.

The return of the Tuskers in nothing more than a PR gimmick as if it is difficult enough to get matches for our own National XV, who will we get to play the Tuskers? And how many times will they play in a year? And what do we want to achieve with the Tuskers? We are yet to create a competitive enough "provincial" competition so why go over the National teams, who are not strong enough anyway? Do we have any idea really on how we are to improve our rugby and qualify for a Rugby World Cup? Do we honestly believe that by simply playing more rugby our rugby will get better? But I forget, we believe in playing hard and with psych! Even our grassroots structure is more about quantity than quality. And we get shocked when national players make basic errors, but they are the best we have, no doubt. And when we can't teach them, we choose others we think will be better. I'm digressing.

It started out with the old committee fighting sale of t-shirts, and claiming they were the only ones allowed to do anything with the word Rugby in this country. Well, it is slowly going to become clear exactly what the union can control, and cannot control. The so-called mandate they have does not define this, nor do they specify it, but use it as a blanket authority to use a name, that in all intents and purposes is an English word!

Initially I thought a two-year term was too short for someone to make a mark in Kenyan Rugby. Never have I been so wrong. Do enjoy the remainder of your week.

i don't think te old commitee had an issue with the word Rugby but the fact that the so called Ministry of Rugby was misrepresenting itself as raising money on bhalf of Kenya rugby nd players whie we all knew that these funds are a pure private money making venture for them which i may add is not illegal but highly unethical

DataMiner, noone gives a damn about your ground zero. Get used to it. The England Counties is a big deal. Very big deal. If you knew anything about the delegation coming to Kenya you would understand. There is some rich rugby pickings in there.

What should worry us is how many Kenyans will make the EA Select team. I wish the team playing the Counties would have been expanded to a Victoria Select - EA + Zim. I suspect maybe 1 Kenyan back would make the team. Guess who?

Let's not pour cold water on fresh ideas and then continually hanker over lack of 15s exposure. Indeed, this is an opportunity to get cooperation (and resources) from the RFU.

This is freakin' good idea. i like how Mwangi is giving effect to some Omwela ideas - The Counties Tour, The Pumas and Western Province. These ideas all started at the Good Judge's time. But, just look at how Shukua is driving them

i would like Tonyango and Arigi to publish their accounts and show what % of their revenue has gone to the very players whose efforts they milk for their luxurious lifestyle moving from 7s capital to another following the team.

Will counties help improve Kenya's rankings in IRB? We need to get to #25 in order to progress further and get huge development grants.

in assessing mwangi, we must also evaluate the fact that now directors can do busienss openly with KRU and secondly they get 50% of sponsorship revenue. This is even worse than kenya gover where the standard is 10%.

games at Nyayo rubbish. Word has it the players themselves dont want to play there as well.Rugby is played in front of fans where you can feel the fans and not the freaking running track.

Directors get 50% of sponsorship going into the game? Kuna shida. Hizo 2011 accounts will need to be passed at Baricho Road

The British Lions are a big rugby deal yet they dont help anyone's IRB rankings. Just a great rugby tradition. The Pumas, Western Province and Counties will all contribute to Kenya's rugby stock.

If the lessons are handled well, they could contribute to our kenya's better rankings. Even if not, Kenya Rugby will be the richer for the relationship.

If we build our rugby culture properly, we will soon stop talking about the happenings in soccer and realise that rugby has had a different historical path. That the rugby ethos are very different from those of other sports

15 rugby is the true game england counties is a team made up of mainly players playing oide the premiership mainly 3rd and 4th tiers, idon't expect much competition from them , combined teams don't have much marketing value and are prone with infighting they should have played a kenya select side like scorpions in days gone by maybe invite a few players from UG , and yes i agree ministry of rugby should stop fooling kenyans as we all know it is a money making venture or it's owners

Old Commitee was fighting the swindlers in the so called Ministry. To date Tonyango and Arigi have not explained the 400k, laptop and replicas collected from kenya rugby to promote friends of rugby initiative which they turned into ministry yet Tonyango pretends to be whistle blower. PS. we know you get payouts from mwangi, you and ayumba to write the things you write on FB.

what will a tuskers tour do for Kenya Rugby? what you need is for National Team to play more Tests. theer is no problem with english counties touring, there is no value for tuskers touring side...

Ha ha ha now that we are yet to get a sponsor for the 7s circuit does it mean that Mwamba will not to participate. Playing for Kenya 7s does not add to your international caps.

back to safari sevens and now the new marketing guy francis mutuku from sports ventures is going around sourcing for sponsors using the guise that he and the former marketing consultant icon sports are working together. that is misleading sponsors

Anonymous said...

is it true that Sadiq Makii has quit safari sevens after a confronting Rabar on his various conflicts of interest , but Mwangi backed his boy forcing sadiq to step down and withdraw his support
