Kenya Rugby 7s at serious risk of losing IRB core status

The following is the statement issued by the IRB in relation to
Kenya's core status in the IRB World Sevens Series Circuit:

"Following the dismal performance in the first 3 legs of the 2011/12
series, the IRB has noted with concern the alarming regression that
has taken place with the Kenya 7s despite their status as one of the
core teams. If there is no immediate change of performance in the
oncoming legs then the IRB will be looking to review and possibly
replace Kenya with of the teams that have shown considerable
improvement over the last 3 years. Kenya 7s no longer looks like a
team that reached the 2009 RWC semi-finals."

Simply put - Shape up or risk getting thrown out. Muthee where are you
taking us?

Hahaha! This is BS! Who will replace us? Zimbabwe? As u know only an African team can replace us as they did with USA and Canada. Zimbos??? Our fellow shield mates? With thousands of kenyans who go to most of the legs....money talks.

This information is inaccurate.Wacha kutunga hadithi ili uuze gazeti.Anyway we are all tired of trying to figure out and explaining the performance of Kenya sevens rugby. There is more to rugby than just the sevens version and this is one thing it seems no one can relate to especially the top bras at the union. So much effort and resources are put in running of the sevens team that the 15 version of the sport is pretty much non existent.Which is a shame.A big shame. We need changes and radicals ones if Kenya is to develop to a power house in the world of real rugby.First any player who plays the sevens version of the sport should not be considered in 15 selection.Second we need to stop depending on local coaches for our 15 national team, either we don't want to spend money on an international coach or we just don't have the will for change.Tank ain't doing it for us and no one else in Kenya will.To get to a competitive level we need managers who have played at that kind of level, someone who will change the policies of the sport and take the game forward. As long as we depend on Tank and co' Elgon cup is the best it will ever get.

We need facilities which include gyms and good playing fields. There is no short cut to this.Either invest on facilities or we continue living in the old age.I know we can do better than where we are at the moment.Since Kenya rugby is amateur sport, efforts should be put in place for clubs to be able to provide some kind of employment to players. This can be done through liaison with companies and cooperate institutions that can also act as sponsors and employees. Why have Lucozade sponsoring your team yet half the team sits at home jobless during the day only to practice in the evening. No motivation whatsoever to players.Get the players jobs because most of Kenya rugby players are at least high school graduates, they can do something and that pay check will surely reflect on the game.We need more players getting out of the country playing semi pro and pro rugby abroad.we only have two now.Lukie in the UK and Odongo In SA.O.k maybe three or four considering Dan and Wamalwa if they are still in France. But we need more of this,There has to be a way the union can come up with a program to market our best talent to play abroad. As long as our national selection only comes from Kenya cup teams dreaming of beating south african league minnows mpumpalanga pumas will be a long shot.Let the players get deals abroad.Rugby is a professional sport out there,we got the talent so let our players also sign contracts, gain that valuable exposure and bring it home for the development of the game.Again this is one benefit of hiring an international coach. All Tank will do is fill the national team with KCB players because, understandably so,that is all he has at his disposal. What sport ever developed without the youth?Investing in youth is not an option its more like we do it or die.We need to invest in minor leagues as low as under eight year old tournaments and have a program that will keep this players from that young age and develop them together as they join high school and later colleges into clubs. It's about time universities are approached to offer scholarships to high school graduates who perform well in sports and in academics. That's the way forward.I think Strath is doing it and you can see how they are doing in the leagues. If such a program is put in place I can assure you of big differences in the game.More opportunity should as be given to the youths when it comes to coaching.Lets gives coaching classes to our youths.Sometime I think no one in the union cares about this things.Maybe I'm wrong.Players should also take responsibility.Instead of sitting around doing nothing on a Sunday why not grab the estate kids take them to a ground and give them a rugby ball teach them the basics.Youth are the way forward. The only time ill be satisfied as a Kenya rugby fan is when we are competing at the top level,,,lets say we just qualified for rugby world cup not that sevens rugby world cup, that is childs play,im talking of the 15 rugby world then and only then can we say We are a rugby playing nation.

When I google the statement, the only place it appears is on the 'Rugby in Kenya' blog. If you have nothing to say, say nothing.
