if this is the new talent we have then we are in a shocking state, rugby doesnt seem natural to many of these guys playing like a bunch of high school kids, when did they start training for the series? also give them some food bana guys look like they have no energy / havent eaten for a while

share the same comment with anonymous, people though that Ayimba was the problem, the selection process need to be looked at, looks like every new coach comes with his guys and it looks like mitch and company are way out of their depth

We are a team without a core: every good sevens team has an enforcer, a playmaker and a flyer. The team put out for the first 3 tournaments was raw (very raw). Without an efficient trio at the core, all we were left to rely upon were basics. And we couldn't perform the basics which left us with subpar performance to put on show. Although, I will never question the boys commitment to the cause, one has to question their lack of proficiency in doing the basics: passing, handling, tackling and rucking all very important facets in the 7s game (we can't get away with inadequacies in these 4 areas). I was watching some games from a couple of years ago, and perfection in those 4 areas were what propelled us to greater heights. Add individual brilliance and speed to burn and we were going places and everything else was a bonus. Solutions: Ultimately the buck stops with the union in the long term. We have a vibrant sevens circuit, but can't produce talent proficient enough for the world stage. They really have to look at developing this talent from school level, so that by the time these players are ripe for world stage the basics of 7s rugby are second nature to them. But in the short term, our coaching staff need to work with what they have, and drill these fundamental skills into the boys. If we can not produce any more enforcers, playmakers and flyers at the very least the players we have now must and should be able to do the basics... very well: psyche can only take you so far. Given the novelty of the management and the players we probably should lower our expectations, but if we are to lose let us lose with worthy performances befitting of our core status. Here's hoping to better performances in the remainder of the series. Cheers!

agreed, so are any guys coming into the squad for coming tournaments i.e collo, lavin even namcos? they do need some older heads there, no one appears to be in the mould of a dennis mwanja type guy who though was an enforcer had sublime skills, we badly lack a playmaker (required in any form of the game)..kick offs were shocking were they not watching the other games, if you dont have a tall guy, lift someone..we cannot blame inexperience, a lot of the teams on the circuit blood almost half a new team each yr....benja must have gained a lot of knowledge over the yrs no need burning bridges, the country benefits when a guy like that can mentor mitch?

Well put,but there seems to be a deliberate attempt to soil anything that was associated with Benja. As put by Anon,he must have lots of experience coaching at that level and that is why the results were seen.Whether they like it or not,Benja will go down as the most successful 7s rugby coach in Kenyan history.,live with that and move on Mitch!
That bench will also need to bring back some of the experienced hands if they are to stay on as a core team, get your coaching together and stop ashaming our country with these young lads that you don't seem to coach any rugby! The conditioning guy seems to have done some little work but so much needs to be done,he seems to be the only knowledgeable guy left that can guide that bench.Word out is that there is infighting already in the tech bench where the team manager and assistant coach want to coach creating more confusion.Get your act together ,your 6 digit salaries and allowances are already enough motivation.
While at it hope that qwhine whiner isn't planning on bringing down Mitch as he tried doing to Ogre at the club,Cardo please get off your high stool and you become a good coach-FREE ADVICE.

professional was the word MM used to describe his plan for Kenya 7's, increased allowances and perks, including hefty bonuses. I hope he has now learned that money cannot buy fitness and skills or technical know how, that was seriously lacking in the team that took the field for each game. The technical bench has shown their lack of foresight in the selection of rookies ahead of experience, THEY ARE TO BLAME.

the selectors and management seriously have to take another look at the talent pool.
